GAS supports first Durham International Festival of Enterprise as headline sponsor

Great Annual Savings Group (GAS) is pleased to announce it will be supporting the inaugural Durham International Festival of Enterprise as headline sponsor.

The free festival will take place on 27 and 28 February and 1 March 2017.  Entitled “Rise of the Entrepreneurs”, it offers the opportunity to gain practical advice and inspiration from experts and peers alike.

The packed three-day schedule features a host of brilliant speakers and workshops from leading businesses, all of which will provide value for delegates.

The festival has been organised by BE Group in conjunction with Business Durham and Durham University and is expected to attract 900 like-minded entrepreneurs, owners and managers to the Gala Theatre and Durham Town Hall.

Delegates will be given a tour of some of the city’s cultural highlights on the opening evening, before two days of business value and thought leadership.

Phil Andrew, Head of Customer Experience at GAS, said: “We jumped at the chance to be involved in the event and share our success story with others.

“GAS has created more than 100 jobs in East Durham and is committed to creating more as the Group continues to grow.

“The line-up at the festival is exceptional and it offers brilliant networking opportunities for a wide range of businesses to share best practice, engage and collaborate.  The themes of innovation, inspiration and overcoming challenges in the digital age are relevant to us all.  So we’re looking forward to being a part of the event at GAS.”

Paul JohnsonGroup Financial Director

Paul Johnson is very much a home-grown talent.

He joined Great Annual Savings Group in its infancy, fresh from a youth career as a professional footballer with Hartlepool United.  He quickly established a reputation within the business and aced all required accountancy qualifications in the space of four years to become the Group’s Management Accountant.

Several successful projects later, Paul was promoted to Head of Finance.  When the former FD left GAS, he took on the mantle of the business’ most senior finance professional; boasting a string of incredible achievements all under the age of 30.

“I have witnessed phenomenal growth at the Group over the many years I’ve worked here and I’m looking forward to guiding the Group into an exciting new chapter.”

Interesting fact:

Paul made his professional debut for Hartlepool United against Bournemouth in the Football League.  Some say Danny Ings still resides in his pocket to this day.
