GAS+chill…a space to recharge & relax

Picture this, an ambient space dedicated to the act of recharging. A quietude dressed in soft furnishings, inspiring wall art and spa-like aromas, filling the air. The only sounds gently reaching you are those of peaceful chilled music and a few fellow meditators, taking in deep, purifying breaths. Sounds good enough to be a luxury wellbeing retreat, right?

Fast-forward a few months and this is ‘The Snugg’, a themed relaxation area located in the new GAS HQ, the state-of-the-art home of GAS’ expanding team.

Joining the likes of Unilever, Nike, Google and Microsoft, The Snugg will be available to all colleagues to take some downtime to zone out, relax, stretch or even meditate to be fully recharged. The Snugg will create a digi-detox for those looking for an escape to a peaceful place, with a cosy lounge type feel to chill-out away from the hustle and bustle of work. Mood lighting, relaxing music, a library of books and a place to put your feet up, this will be a great calming area for GAS colleagues.

Taking inspiration from some of the most prevalent commercial design movements, the calming space will feature a layout and furnishing style that brings a homey atmosphere to the workplace, offering a welcoming, comfortable place to spend time. Otherwise known as ‘resimercial,’ this approach of bringing comfort and calm into the office is proven to increase productivity and creativity according to Wayfair.

Judith Bennison, Group HR Director at GAS, has been instrumental in the new HQ project and the concept designs.

“Our aim is to have somewhere really special for our people. People spend the majority of their lives at work, good businesses value and look after their people. We at GAS like to think we excel at this by having a work environment like no other. Our people are at the forefront of what we are all about at GAS – sometimes it’s just about caring and looking after your people by creating a great place to work!”

“We know the workplace environment is evolving, with the needs and wants of colleagues at its’ core. We wanted to create a haven of calm, away from the vibrancy of ‘The Street.’ By having different themed zones across the new HQ there’ll be something for everyone, having downtime at work is key to GAS’ health & wellbeing ethos. This has been integral in our designs for every themed zone, there is so much variety on the campus we think our colleagues will absolutely love it and it will be a great attraction for those looking to join GAS!”

Joining GASTRO, GAS+fit, GAS+play and GAS+health, GAS+chill offers a dimension to the workplace rarely seen outside of the country’s capital. From the words of GAS’ CEO, Bradley Groves, “if it’s good enough for the likes of Google and Microsoft, it’s good enough for GAS.”

Paul JohnsonGroup Financial Director

Paul Johnson is very much a home-grown talent.

He joined Great Annual Savings Group in its infancy, fresh from a youth career as a professional footballer with Hartlepool United.  He quickly established a reputation within the business and aced all required accountancy qualifications in the space of four years to become the Group’s Management Accountant.

Several successful projects later, Paul was promoted to Head of Finance.  When the former FD left GAS, he took on the mantle of the business’ most senior finance professional; boasting a string of incredible achievements all under the age of 30.

Quote:

“I have witnessed phenomenal growth at the Group over the many years I’ve worked here and I’m looking forward to guiding the Group into an exciting new chapter.”

Interesting fact:

Paul made his professional debut for Hartlepool United against Bournemouth in the Football League.  Some say Danny Ings still resides in his pocket to this day.
