Bianca Rankin

You’ve got a friend in me

For some people, it is the finer details that can make all the difference when they start a new job.

That is something that Great Annual Savings Group (GAS) absolutely believes to be true when welcoming new starters to the company.

In the highly-competitive business energy industry, it seems that excess is the go-to tactic to grab the attention of potential employees.  But when Bianca Rankin joined GAS in May 2019, it was the little things she loved.

“It was strange during first week; but somehow everyone seemed to know my name.  I couldn’t walk through a room without someone welcoming me.  There’s such a friendly atmosphere.

“I came from a competitor where the environment was totally different.  There’s clear personal progression here and a genuine interest in developing staff.  I’ve already picked up new skills which means I can progress within the Group and the industry.”

When it come to energy sales, the industry is a jungle for both businesses and employees.  Experience is required to navigate the various pitfalls, contracts and legislation, as well as the huge choice of employers and suppliers.

“I’ve been promised certain things in the past,” continued Bianca, “that, when it came to the crunch, employers could not deliver.  I’ve only been here three months, but every promise that has been made to me at GAS has been kept.

“It’s not an easy industry to work in.  Some days it can feel really hard, but when you get it right it can be rewarding.  A happy customer whose business is able to develop and some commission in the back pocket is a great feeling.

“On top of commission and incentives, the other ‘GAS life’ events the company holds are there for you to take advantage of.

“To be good at this job, you have to be out-going, friendly and not shy.  As I found in my first week, you’re brought straight out of your shell here.  For me that has been a positive experience and I love working here.”

Paul JohnsonGroup Financial Director

Paul Johnson is very much a home-grown talent.

He joined Great Annual Savings Group in its infancy, fresh from a youth career as a professional footballer with Hartlepool United.  He quickly established a reputation within the business and aced all required accountancy qualifications in the space of four years to become the Group’s Management Accountant.

Several successful projects later, Paul was promoted to Head of Finance.  When the former FD left GAS, he took on the mantle of the business’ most senior finance professional; boasting a string of incredible achievements all under the age of 30.

Quote:

“I have witnessed phenomenal growth at the Group over the many years I’ve worked here and I’m looking forward to guiding the Group into an exciting new chapter.”

Interesting fact:

Paul made his professional debut for Hartlepool United against Bournemouth in the Football League.  Some say Danny Ings still resides in his pocket to this day.
